A man from Basingstoke has received a significant amount in compensation with Mercury Legal, after suffering substantial hearing loss through a lack of hearing protection from the MOD.
The man was in his 20s when he was exposed to excessive levels of noise through his work as a serviceman. He suffered significant damage to his hearing, including tinnitus.
Several challenges needed to be overcome in obtaining compensation for him. The waiting time for MOD cases is particularly long as there is normally a 3-6 month waiting time to retrieve servicemens’ records. We also needed to ensure that his claim was dealt with efficiently.
As a result of pursuing the case with Mercury Legal, Mr S received £22,000 in damages. This will allow him to receive specialist hearing aids and fitment as well as a tinnitus masking device, which will help him to recover his sleeping pattern.
