Chris Martin and will.i.am have agreed to contribute songs to a new tinnitus charity album, aimed at raising awareness of the hearing condition.
Both Martin and will.i.am have talked openly after their suffering from tinnitus – a constant ringing in the ear, caused by exposure to a loud environment without hearing protection.
Now the stars’ bands, Coldplay and the Black Eyed Peas, have contributed to an album, I Am The One In Ten, that will set out to raise money for the British Tinnitus Association (BTA).
The project is the work of DJ Eddy Temple-Morris, a producer and ambassador of the British Tinnitus Association, who said he wanted to produce an album “where every single person involved has tinnitus”.
Martin has spoken out about the condition in the past, saying: “I’ve had tinnitus for about 10 years, but since I started protecting my ears it hasn’t got any worse… Looking after your ears is unfortunately something you don’t think about until there’s a problem. I wish I’d thought about it earlier.”
Temple-Morris said of the project: “We need to get through to the government that it’s not just musicians and soldiers that get tinnitus, it’s every layer of society.”
“We want to reflect this by putting together a compilation album where every single person involved has tinnitus.”
He was “so happy that Chris Martin has given this his blessing” saying that the album, if produced, “could be a game-changer”.
